If the LIRR was never bought by the MTA, here's an alternate timeline
1968: LIRR becomes a subsidiary of Penn Central.
1976: LIRR commuter operations are taken over by Conrail.
1980-present: The MTA tries to purchase the LIRR again.
1997: The New York and Atlantic Railway is never established.
